Inspiration

While doing my free choice rolls of film, I've slowly become more fascinated with interior spaces. Especially framing spaces by using the light and dark to contain the image and taking my time to consider the tones that the black and white film will produce. It has also come to my attention that I prefer to create compositions without the interference of people, or the inclusion of people for that matter. It feels as if these images are missing or waiting for a person to come in and complete the balance. Though I'm still unsure of what I would like to focus on for the final assignment, I would like to try to continue to focus in on what specifically draws me to interiors.

In high school my teacher consistently produced famous photographers for us to research. After seeing one of James Nachtwey's war photographs, I wanted to see what other issues he was interested in. This photo's surreal nature, and the way he was able to capture such a serious subject in a touching way has always reminded me that messages can be sent through the photographs.

This image has no explanation. Just browsing around and I had found it a while back. It's by Lynn Goldsmith. And for some reason, the lighting has stayed with me.

Living 45 minutes outside of NYC, I had become attracted to visiting to the MoMA on a fairly frequent basis. In my freshman year of high school, I visited during an exhibition of Jeff Wall's photography. I have always found this photograph to be something of a haunt. The colors and placement of the objects always seemed to draw me back to it. It seems as if this photo is begging an explanation. I still haven't found an answer that satisfies me.
