Random Rolls- Alison

After going through my random rolls a few times I noticed a two trends. The first was that most of the pictures were candid and unplanned. I always have my camera with me, so when I would see a good picture, or my idea of an interesting picture at least, I would take the photo. The other trend I noticed was that most of the pictures were taken of people, when they didn't realize I photographing them. Especially strangers who were too engaged in what they were doing to notice I was aiming my camera right at them.
I think the idea behind these random rolls were to capture images of people being completely themselves. After doing the stranger roll and seeing how composed and stiff people would become when I pointed my camera at them, I try to capture images of people being completely themselves. People talking to their friends, or doing their homework, people completely wrapped up in a world separate from myself.

So far I only have 2 random rolls that I have planned prior to shooting. The texas beach roll, and a roll where I walked up to people and asked them to make the most ridiculous face they could so I could photograph it. I was happy with the result of this because even if I didn't know the people, they were relaxed and silly, as opposed to the reactions I got while shooting the stranger roll.

If I had to shoot a roll right now I think I would follow through with an idea I had last night. I would sit in a restaurant or library, or somewhere where people are constantly in and out and take a picture of the same table every time someone different sat down.
