Vivian Maier

Recently there was an article in Time Magazine about a man who found a bunch of undeveloped rolls of film in an old house. Being a real estate agent, he decided to get them developed and printed in hopes of finding old pictures of the property he was exploring. As he went through the pictures, he became more and more impressed with their artistic value. It turned out that the woman who took them, Vivian Maier, had died without having been discovered as a skilled photographer.

I am absolutely obsessed with her photographs. Maier's attention to lighting, composition, content, and angles is breath taking. I strongly encourage you all to check out her work, or at least read the article in Time Magazine (March 7, 2011) since it's only three paragraphs long. She worked with a medium format black and white film during the time she had a private bathroom, and eventually moved on to color 35mm Leica and others. I am in love with her story and the body of work they have published of hers.
