Really loving the photograph by Nicholas Prior. There's something so fantasy about razor blades in your candy at Halloween, or the normalcy that two masochists must feel in each others company that makes me feel at home with this photograph. I mean this in all sincerity.
I want to thank you for showing me Prior. I have seen that image time and time again but I never even thought of finding out who actually took it. Now I feel as if credit has been given. I feel a little bias when it comes to critiquing this image however, as it gives me a lot more emotion then most photos because of the music I connect with it.
I really enjoy the idea of Teller, the line of the human body, the hidden game he has developed for the viewer and the way the creases in the bag help keep it from disappearing into the background. It may sound weird, but that actually is my favorite part. I feel the bag, especially in the lower left corner creases help give the picture so much texture and that is what makes it a very well thought out photo. Although I must comment though shoes look extremely uncomfortable and I keep thinking on how someone could walk with them, but maybe that is part of the silliness of the photo too.
Heather - on the real - look up Prior's other photos if you haven't already. They are incredible, but that image specifically (though I'm well aware of its musical connection) is one of my favorite images of all time.
I really enjoy the Meisel picture you posted. I find the contrast between the activity and the setting really interesting. Keeping in mind that interesting is a vague word, the reason i find it so interesting is because it sheds the life of soldiers in a different light. We usually see soldiers in a more violent aggressive atmosphere.
