The photos I chose are parts of André Kertész's (1894 - 1985) series Distortions. What originally inspired him for this series was another one of his most famous photographs, "Underwater Swimmer". He decided to explore the idea more thoroughly and used a funhouse mirror to distort naked models. What I like about these images is how the human body is transformed in some kind of strange creature; the way Kertész played with lines and forms, making one's most familiar possession, the body, hardly recognizable or understandable. He makes us see it in a whole different way. Even the backgrounds get distorted, giving this very bizarre atmosphere that I'm so fond of.
