All of these photos by Rodero were taken in Spain. Spain in a country very close to my heart. It's one country I dream about traveling to. Anything pertaining to the country excites me and holds my interest and this glimpse into their culture has me hooked. I love seeing the passion and love that thrives in this great country, with all it's history and amazing people.
I look at these photos of children and wonder. The life they grew up in, the great culture in Spain. Did they ever question their faith? They great faith that they grew up with in, that their family pushed so hard on them? Will they grow up strong and happy or die sudden deaths devastating their families? This moment captured in this photograph is almost like a clift hanger in images. Not only does the viewer never know if the jumper made it to the other side, but the viewer also feels the need to want to watch the child grow up. Do they remember this moment? Do they remember anything?
Every photo always seems to have a mystery behind it. Maybe that is why photography is something to amazing to me, because I always feel the need to ask more questions. Was this woman ready for her baby? Is her family accepted of it? With this child grow up surrounded with love and hope or be thought of as a bastard? But none of that matters, because in this moment is just her and her mother. Her little soul in this huge world waiting to be twisted and renwed.
Death is always an interesting subject. It's tragic and sad, but it's so natural. That's when the mystery of this photo comes in. Is the child dead or just sleeping? Is the women crying because of cold thoughts of hard times, or because of the cold child she is holding? More questions, always more questions when it comes to my mind. Maybe that's the reason these photos move me so much, it's because they don't answer enough questions.
