  1. I think the only reason I'm fond of Terry Richardson's photograph of the man with the record is because it reminds me so much of the average Richmond lifestyle. It's almost humourous to see this man with his beard and his tattoos and record music.
The high contrast makes the image appealing and interesting to a viewer's eye, and I think because of the high contrast, the clutter and position of the subject makes an audience study the photo harder.

  2. On another note, I find that your posting of Charles Cramer's work dissatisfying. I don't think Cramer is original and he hardly ever tries to bend the rules of basic photography. After seeing the image you posted, I went to Cramer's website to see if there were any other photographs that I would find more appealing. However, it honestly all just looks the same. There is only one picture that made a positive impression on me, which is under 'Yosemite' titled "Moon." The position of the moon and tree just create a pleasing aesthetic value, while the high contrast and habits of the bare tree branches give it a lonely and barren feeling.
Other than that, a lot of his images are a simple long shutter speed or screwing around with HDR, which I personally just find annoying.

  4. I can't say I'm really a fan of the Terry Richardson shot you posted, despite him being one of my favorite contemporary portrait photographers. To me what makes his work unique (or, did) is the fact that he went so against the grain of modern portraiture. His stark, minimal, and relatively unedited images were almost completely opposite to everything that was being done with fashion photography at the time. To me the photo you chose isn't really exemplary of that sort of revolutionizing work at all. In fact, it reminds me more of something I might see in an album on Facebook.

  5. Ashleen thanks for your feedback on both pictures, and I agree with you about the Richardson photo. What drew me to it was that it reminded me of Richmond but Emmett I can also understand your sentiments toward it
