Eileen Cowin

When it comes to Photography I'm really interested in conceptional works. I enjoy strange focal points, interesting filters and edits. Anything that catches my eyes. Click through their names to go to their portfolios.

  1. I've never heard of any of these photographers but I'm very attracted to the first image you've posted by Eileen Cowin. After looking through her website it seems that she has developed a more interesting style through the decades. The image that you chose to post was my favorite along with another that was Untitled (the image of a woman on her toes).

  3. Wow, i have to say, i quite like Eileen Cowin's photograph that you posted; the fact that she decided to focus an someone's body parts, in that case the neck muscles, makes the subjects so much more alive to me. You can feel the life rushing through that man's body.
On the other hand, i found the two other photographs that you've chosen completely different; they look more "out-of-space" i guess? Especially the Gordin's! I like how the light tends to draw the bodies' silhouette, but the sand, the hole, the two bodies trying to get a hold of each other (including one that seems to have a cut-off head and hand!), it's so disturbing for me; but probably just because i'm not quite use to that kind of photo (yet!).

  4. All three of these photos remind me of what we talked about in class about not labeling something for what we see it as, but for its potential and what it can be (and essentially what it is).
The photo by Misha Gordon, however, I feel does an amazing job showing the human body as a more organic and natural form opposed what we may see it as.
The Lighting of the photo is what I like most about the photo. Both bodies are highlighted to bring out its shapes and different forms (i.e- The ribs are clearly seen and you can see the muscle definition in both bodies).
The dramatic lighting that highlights the mens bodies and the simple background and delicate pose also creates a nice contrast

  6. The first picture is the most intriguing to me. It successfully functions as both a photograph of someones neck, as well as an abstract image. Certain parts of it almost begin to take on qualities reminiscent of a (very alien) landscape.
The black background, shallowed depth of field, and centered composition all draw attention to the bulging veins, which are arguably the most interesting part of the image.

  7. Misha Gordon's photo in moving because of its ethereal quality. There's a delicate balance between the figures and I'm left in awe, and not entirely sure what the meaning is behind this photo.
