Dorothea Lange (photos that move me)

Like many photographers who produce images that are moving, Dorothea Lange does so by documenting a dramatic period of history. However, many photographers create powerful images by documenting suffering, pain, poverty and violence, Dorothea Lange's work seems to focus on a suffering that stems from idleness and hopelessness. Her body of work seems to focus on a large group of people who are unemployed and have nothing to do on a daily basis as a result of the Great Depression. These pictures are no more moving than images of war atrocities, but they seem to hit closer to home. They don't posses a level of violence unimaginable to me, but an idleness that is distinctly familiar and uncomfortable.
